The Turfgrass Program is another branch of the CDGA that calls the Three Hole Sunshine Course at Midwest Golf House home.
The Turfgrass Program provides three areas of turfgrass support to the Chicago District - diagnostics, research and education. On-site, rapid diagnostic support is the cornerstone of the program. The Turfgrass Program presents three educational events annually: the MAGCS/CDGA March Education seminar, the Medinah Club Leadership Conference, and the Turfgrass Field Day on the Sunshine Course for private club Green Committee members and superintendents, .
In addition to hosting the Turfgrass Field Day, the Sunshine Course also serves as a living laboratory for the Turfgrass Program. The program's two researchers utilize the course to conduct numerous studies and trials that benefit superintendents throughout the region. The wide variety of grasses present on the course allows for this research to impact many different constituents.
The course also allows the staff to experiment with ways to control diseases that superintendents fight. To get a visual explanation of the research being done and its results, it is not uncommon to see superintendents at the course.
